Prevention Programs
The Silicon Valley Cancer Foundation supports technologies and solutions to help prevent cancer. This includes healthy lifestyles and a cleaner environment. Dr. Buckman has written a book called Hidden Inflammation Syndrome and Pollution. He has researched the role of Inflammation and its link to environmental factors. He also stresses how important a healthy diet, exercise, and clean environment is for human health.
The Silicon Valley Cancer Foundation also supports education and research for green technologies for power, clean water, and waste management.
Breast Wellness and Breast Cancer Program
The Silicon Valley Cancer Foundation strives to provide information, conduct research, and assist women with health concerns. Our special interest is early breast cancer recognition, and research for therapy, and breast cancer prevention.
EARLY BREAST CANCER RECOGNITION IS NEEDED.
There is clear evidence that breast cancer has two large subgroups based on age. In younger patients the disease is more aggressive and difficult to treat. The mortality in this group is significantly higher than in the older age group. Early detection is still key for improving survival, but unfortunately early diagnosis is most difficult for those under 50 years of age.
THE HIGHEST DEATH RATE OF BREAST CANCER OCCURS IN YOUNG WOMEN.
This is due to the higher incidence of the more aggressive cancers. Younger women tend to have denser tissue because their bodies are still producing lots of hormones which stimulate breast tissue growth.
In this dense breast group, mammograms used for breast cancer diagnosis are only 50% sensitive to cancer. With newer digital mammography, which is not used very much except in a few diagnostic centers, the sensitivity only reaches up to 70%. This means that one third to one half of all women will fail to have their breast cancer diagnosed early using traditional approaches.
Because so many women have dense breasts, cancer is hard to find.
These are some of the reasons that death rates from breast cancer have changed very little over the past decades, while the incidence of breast cancer increases every year worldwide.

A five minute screening test for breast cancer that is non harmful and non invasive for women of all ages. There is no x-ray exposure with the Breast Test. Early detection is especially important in breast cancer.
Prevention
More research is needed to know what factors are involved with breast cancer. Each year over one million women are diagnosed with breast cancer throughout the world. In the United States two hundred thousand women are diagnosed and fifty thousand of those will die due to breast cancer.
Billions of dollars have been spent for the cost of taking care of patients with breast cancer, yet more public awareness and improved treatment are needed.
EFFECT OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND DIETARY CHANGE IN BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS.
Impact: Obesity has been associated with hormonal profiles that are known to stimulate breast cancer growth. By changing a patient s weight and subsequent hormonal profiles through easily accessible exercise facilities and nutritional instruction, survivors may have greater success in staying cancer free after treatment.
